High in the Spiti Valley, at 3,650 m in the village of Rangrik near Kaza, AstroMonks is where the mountains meet the cosmos. We're a stargazing stay, observatory and astro-experience collective built under some of the darkest, clearest skies in India, a cold desert with thin, dry air and no city glow for miles. Stay in our cosy cottages right beside the observatory dome, and let the night do the rest. Our telescopes are set up on the observing field every clear evening, and our guides take you through planets, star clusters, nebulae and the Milky Way rising over the Himalaya. No experience needed: no telescope, no degree, just a little curiosity. We also host astrophotography sessions, laser-guided sky tours, solar viewing through filtered telescopes, and talks that connect Spiti's ancient culture with the universe above it. AstroMonks organises astro festivals too, including the Spiti Astro Festival, Spiti's first ever astronomy festival, with three nights of telescopes, night-sky photography, talks, local culture and programmes for Spiti's young astronomers.
